We make the best decisions when the choices we make reflect our values. And sometimes, our best choices may reflect values we desire, or aspire to, and as a result, our decisions help us to become the person we aspire to be.
Many people allow their choices to be dictated by outside influences – money, fear, reward, pain etc. I call these people ‘choice drifters’ because their choices are like corks drifting in the ocean; they are powerless to prevent the ocean taking them wherever it is going.
If we make decisions before we understand our values, our beliefs, and especially before we have the most complete understanding of ‘who we are’, how can we ever expect to make the best choices? Because how can we make choices in alignment with our actual values, if we don’t know yet what those values are?
Even if we choose values we aspire to, because the personality is considered by many to have formed by the time we are 7 years old, we may be making choices that end up blocking our flow.
Take the time to uncover your passions, purpose, values & beliefs. Not only will this help you access a state of flow, but it will also help improve your decisions making capability. When we understand our authentic self, decision making flows more naturally because we have the opportunity to check our choices against our personal values, notice where there is a match and take decisions that are most closely aligned to our values and beliefs.
