Isn’t it about time we stopped moulding people into convenient boxes?
Have you ever noticed that from the age of 4 (at primary school) we’re told we have to do this, or that, if we ever want to succeed? I believe we need to flip that around and instead ask people as early in their lives as possible; What are your passions? What motivates you? What do you want to do with your life? Ask the big, challenging questions that we all shy away from at some time or other.
Because if we do ask these questions, if we do flip this around, we’ll never have to motivate anyone in the workplace ever again.
I believe the jobs that we need (for everyone to follow their passions and their purpose) are out there and if they’re not, we can and will create them. Please don’t say to me that just because it doesn’t exist now doesn’t mean it won’t exist in the future.
All we need to have everyone loving what they’re doing is the courage to say “stop pushing me towards a role I’ve not consciously chosen and help me uncover who I am, what I love doing, where I love being and who I love working with”.
When we do that, creativity, agility & innovation will flow, naturally and authentically. Isn’t it about time we all started asking for our intrinsic needs to be met?
